Karla Ahmanson

A commitment to family and community, an open heart and a ready smile are among the many winning attributes of Karla Ahmanson. A child of Greek and German immigrants, Karla speaks of her parents’ life as one of “achieving the American dream.” She is the President of the Los Angeles Police Reserve Foundation and is an effective advocate for Reserve Officers whose mission of crime prevention and public safety is a major asset to the Los Angeles Police Department. She manages to actively participate in other organizations that she believes in. Since 1995 she has participated in Anne Banning Operation School Bell within the Assistance League of Los Angeles; having served on the board and chaired committees, she has availed the organization or her public relations and event coordination talents. OSB is more than a charitable opportunity. It is a calling that brings great joy to those that work OSB and those who are beneficiaries of their efforts. Service of all types is important and she is a proud Director of Loyola High School, again taking a leadership position as Vice-Chair of the Educational Resources Committee. Karla is also politically active, having served as a California State delegate and currently as a board member of New Majority of California.

One cannot look at the landscape of Los Angeles without running into Karla or someone who knows her. Either through The Angelics Auxiliary-of which she was a co-founder, The Luminaires Juniors of the Doheny Eye Institute-furthering its singular commitment to the conservation, improvement and restoration of human eyesight or St. James Episcopal School-where she was head of the Parent Association. She has also served on the Parent Board at Claremont McKenna College and in an advisory position for Christ The King Catholic School. All organizations that have benefited from her involvement.

Like her parents, family is important to her. While Karla is proud of her service to the community she takes the most pride in her children. Chris, a writer and twins Kathryn, a Senior at Claremont McKenna, Karalyn, a Senior at USC and her husband Bill Ahmanson, who she met on a blind date. Her family is active at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, with each family member participating in the mass volunteering for various duties.
